P90X Resistance Band Workout Overview

Power 90 Extreme, or P90X, is a 90-day home fitness routine that you can follow while using either resistance bands, or free weights and a pull-up bar. This exercise program highlights what Tony Horton calls “muscle confusion”, a method of cross-training, to keep you hitting a plateau in your training. It incorporates cardio, strength, core and flexibility training into its workouts. I only did P90X’s classic exercise rotation (one of three), so that’s what I will write about.

These exercises are extremely intense but very effective; you will be sore for the first week or so, so consider yourself warned. Still, your endurance and physical condition will develop by sticking to your workout program. I began noticing results two weeks after I followed the program. They weren’t that impressive, but it was a start, and I felt good knowing that the time I put in it was really worthwhile. Workout routines last from about 50 to 80 minutes, depending on which routine you are doing that day. The time period includes a 5-10 minute warm-up, and a 5-10 minute cool-down period. For best results, work out for six days a week, and use the seventh day for your stretching routines, or make it your relaxation day instead.

Not only does P90X give you awesome workouts, it also gives you a great nutrition guide as well as a food list that tells you which are good and not so good to eat while working out. There are fruits and vegetables, of course, and then there are the food types that have mostly sugar and fat and barely any other nutrients in between. I really like the food guide, though, because there are five levels of food in it, and it gives details on which ones you can have all the time and which ones you should consume in moderation, and the ones you should not consume at all.

P90X workouts are fun and stimulating; you will never be bored with them. You target new muscle groups each day so you never overwork any certain area. Tony Horton is also very engaging as your training instructor and host. He has a light and comical aura that will get you to laugh throughout your workouts. He will also coax you into giving your all and finishing your workouts no matter how tired you think you feel. He always puts safety first, advising you to stop your workout before you overexert yourself and get hurt.
